I worked with eatSmart during their final project. I can’t tell you how proud I was of them as they overcame the multiple challenges I threw at them. Not only did they have ThymeLeaf Java templates, but I challenged them to re-create these templates with vanilla JavaScript — from scratch — so they really understood not only the backend controllers, but also front-end AJAX and JavaScript 6+ along with REST controllers instead of those that were built into Java. I pushed them and they rose to the occassion. The point was to learn. They learned several ways to accomplish a backend/front-end request, including the tried and true as well as the cutting-edge. To be pushed like that, with obligations of family and work, isn’t easy. They stayed together as a team throughout, with natural leadership and collaboration helping them accomplish their goals. Their resilience and curiousity was undeniable. I’m so proud of this team. What you see in their app is only the tip of the iceburg.
